Since 1987, Dr. David O. Parrish, M.D., FAAFP, has contributed as faculty in the residency program and also served as director of the family medicine residency program from 2001 to 2016. He continues to serve as an associate director. Dr. Parrish received his medical degree from the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham, AL, and then spent three years in the family medicine residency program at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Pensacola, FL.
Dr. Parrish was a U.S. navy family physician for two years at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and later served as the director of residency training at the Naval Hospital in Charleston, SC. After leaving active duty to come to Bayfront, he affiliated with the United States Naval Reserve for many years and retired at the rank of Navy Captain. He has served on multiple boards and committees locally and nationally including the Pinellas County Medical Association, Florida Academy of Family Physicians and Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors. He served two terms as Chief of the Medical Staff at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Dr. Parrish holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in sports medicine.
Dr. Parrish practices at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Serving the community since 1906, Bayfront is a 480-bed tertiary, academic medical center located in St. Petersburg, affiliated with USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and the regional flagship hospital for a network of hospitals bearing the Bayfront Health name along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Bayfront Health St. Petersburg’s Level II trauma center (Pinellas County’s only trauma center) and Bayflite (aeromedical transport program) have been serving the community for 30 years. Bayfront’s commitment to excellence includes, certified as Pinellas County’s only Level IV epilepsy center, accredited by The Joint Commission for hospital, laboratory and also The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for advanced certification as a primary stroke center and in the management of heart failure, hip and knee joint replacement. Bayfront Health’s Baby Place is a partner in one of 11 programs in the State of Florida designated as a Level III regional perinatal intensive care center (RIPICC).
